Celebrating International Reptile Day in Paphos

On International Reptile Day, Gem’s Pet and Animals partnered with TLC Private School in Paphos to host an educational session on the fascinating world of reptiles. Focused on raising awareness about Cyprus-native reptiles, reptile safety, and the importance of wildlife conservation, this interactive experience was designed to inspire students and promote understanding of these misunderstood creatures.

Educating Students on Reptile Behavior and Safety

Our team brought along some of our most beloved reptiles, including baby turtles, a Corn Snake, a playful gecko, and Gem’s favorite Ball Python, Agapi. Through engaging demonstrations, we educated the students on snake behavior, habitat characteristics, and how reptiles survive in the wild. Most importantly, we highlighted how to stay safe and react calmly when encountering a snake, emphasizing prevention over fear.

Understanding Reptiles in Cyprus

Reptiles like the Cyprus whip snake and other species play a crucial role in the island’s ecosystem. Our session shed light on the habitats of local reptiles, their interaction with humans, and why they are essential for maintaining biodiversity in Cyprus. Encouraging students to respect and protect these animals fosters a harmonious relationship between people and wildlife.

Interactive Learning for Curious Young Minds

Aligned with the school’s Science curriculum, our session provided a hands-on opportunity to learn about reptile biology, ecology, and conservation efforts in Cyprus. By interacting directly with reptiles, students gained valuable insights into their behavior while overcoming common myths and fears.

Promoting Conservation and Awareness

At Gem’s Pet and Animals, we believe education is the key to protecting wildlife. Through events like International Reptile Day, we aim to raise awareness about the ecological importance of reptiles and how humans can coexist with them peacefully.
